A meeting of the co-chairs of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Russian Commission on Economic Cooperation, Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Nokerguly Atagulyev and Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Marat Khusnullin, was held at the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.

"Russian-Turkmen relations are developing in an environment of partnership and trust. I would like to thank the Turkmen side for the attention that it paid to the recent KazanForum and for the participation of the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov in it. I am confident that today's meeting will give a certain impetus to further relations. We will work on all the agreements reached, for the benefit of our peoples," said Marat Khusnullin.

He added that trade and economic relations between Russia and Turkmenistan demonstrate high rates of development. The volume of trade turnover in January-March 2025 increased by 21.4%. In order to increase mutual trade, an intergovernmental action plan for 2025-2027 is currently being developed.

Vice-Chairman Nokerguly Atagulyev expressed readiness for a constructive discussion of issues and confidence that the meeting will serve as a basis for the further development of mutually beneficial relations.

The parties discussed the details of cooperation in the fields of trade, industry, energy, agriculture, culture, education, and also defined plans for the further development of bilateral relations.

As part of the active development of international transport corridors, new routes are being considered, including the direction through Turkmenistan to China and other countries. One of the promising projects is the Volga-Caspian Canal with access to the port of Turkmenbashi, as well as the "Eastern Bypass of the Caspian Sea" route within the framework of the North-South ITC. It was also noted that an important component of Russian-Turkmen relations is cooperation in the cultural sphere.
