Tajikistan, which has so far imported liquefied natural gas mainly from Kazakhstan and Russia, will now expand the geography of supplies, Minister of Energy and Water Resources of the Republic Juma Daler said at a press conference, Interfax reports.

«An agreement has been signed with Turkmenistan on the import of liquefied gas, which provides for an unlimited volume of imports of this type of fuel», - the minister said.

According to him, in 2021, more than 410,000 tons of liquefied gas were imported into the republic, of which 361,000 tons came from Kazakhstan, 5,000 tons of liquefied gas were imported from Turkmenistan, and the rest came from Russia.

According to him, the agreement with Turkmenistan was signed at the end of the year, and therefore this year Tajikistan expects to import more fuel from this republic.

At present, up to 60% of cars in the republic are filled with liquefied gas.

In total, in 2021, more than 1 million tons of oil products and liquefied gas were imported to the republic from Russia, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Turkmenistan.  Of these, almost 242.4 thousand tons of gasoline, 345 thousand tons of diesel fuel, more than 410 thousand tons of liquefied gas.

In August 2021, following the results of negotiations in Ashgabat between the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov and the head of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon, an Agreement on cooperation in the field of transportation of liquefied gas and fuels and lubricants was signed as part of a package of documents.
