Oil and gas production in Turkmenistan has traditionally been linked to the Middle Pliocene sedimentary complex, known as the red-bed sequence. In recent years, however, Mesozoic deposits have grown increasingly significant, seen as a promising direction for expanding the country's resource base.

The State Service of Maritime and River Transportation of Turkmenistan conducted comprehensive exercises aimed at preventing and responding to industrial accidents at oil and gas platforms and other facilities in the Turkmen sector of the Caspian Sea. The comprehensive drill was organized in accordance with the 2026 Work Plan of the State Commission of Turkmenistan for Emergency Situations.
