The Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, made a working trip to the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation the day before, where he took part in the XIII International Economic Summit «Russia – the Islamic World: KazanSummit 2022» as an honored guest, and also held a number of bilateral meetings, the State Information Agency reports.

The head of the upper chamber of the Parliament of Turkmenistan delivered a speech at the plenary session of this Forum.

As Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted in his speech, recently Turkmen-Tatarstan relations have been given an additional powerful impetus, bringing them to a new level.  Partnership in the economic and investment spheres is successfully developing.

In this context, the activities in Turkmenistan of such large companies from Tatarstan as KAMAZ, Tatneft, KER-holding, Kazan Helicopter Plant, Ak-Bars shipbuilding corporation and others were especially noted.  They have proven themselves in our country, which intends to further build mutually beneficial partnerships with them, Hero Arkadag said.

As noted, economic reforms in Turkmenistan imply, first of all, the diversification of industry, the creation of new industries, the production of high-quality and export-oriented products of a wide range.

In this regard, there are great opportunities for partnership in the field of engineering, oil production and oil refining, the petrochemical industry, where Turkmenistan and Tatarstan have serious potential, Hero Arkadag said.

There are also favorable conditions for successful cooperation in the agricultural, food and processing industries, in the fields of science, healthcare, and sports.  At the same time, special emphasis was placed on cooperation in the field of high technologies and science-intensive industries.

“Today, this is a priority area for Turkmenistan, and we would like to intensify our cooperation with Tatarstan partners, taking into account the powerful scientific and scientific-production potential available here,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted.

This direction is closely related to interaction in the area of education and training of highly qualified personnel.  For many years, Turkmenistan has been sending its youth to study in Tatarstan, where today about 5,000 Turkmen students study at leading universities.  Our country intends to increase the number of students sent to higher educational institutions of Tatarstan every year, gradually expand the range of training, focusing on specialists in the field of modern high technologies, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

The solemn ceremony of presenting the highest state award of Tatarstan to the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan was held at the residence of the President of the Republic of Tatarstan of the Russian Federation.  The Order «For Merit to the Republic of Tatarstan» was presented to Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov by the Head of the Republic Rustam Minnikhanov.

At the ceremony, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed that it was «a great honor for him to accept the highest award of the Republic of Tatarstan» and noted that he regards this as a sign of great respect of fraternal Tatarstan for the people of Turkmenistan.
