Election campaign for early presidential elections begins in Turkmenistan

The Central Commission for Elections and Referendums (CEC) announces the start of the election campaign for early elections of the President of Turkmenistan on February 14.
This decision was made on Sunday at a meeting of the CEC, the main topic of which was the preparation for the election of the President of Turkmenistan in accordance with the Constitution and legislation of the country.
“The Central Commission for Elections and Referendums announces the start of an election campaign on February 14, 2022, which includes several stages – nomination of candidates, their registration, meetings with voters, etc.,” the Neutral Turkmenistan newspaper reported on Monday.
During the meeting, the CEC approved a calendar plan of events for the preparation and conduct of elections.
In particular, it is noted that from February 14, political parties and initiative groups of citizens will begin to hold meetings to nominate their candidates for the highest state post.
The course of the election campaign will be monitored not only by national observers from political parties and public organizations, but also by international experts and observers.
The meeting was attended by members of the Central Election Commission, working groups established under the Central Election Commission, representatives of political parties and public organizations, and the media.
On Saturday, by the decision of the Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan, early elections of the President of Turkmenistan were scheduled for March 12, 2022 in accordance with Article 81 of the Constitution of Turkmenistan, Article 86 of the Electoral Code of Turkmenistan. This article of the code concerns the holding of early elections.
