In Turkmenistan, the “General Program for Providing Settlements of Turkmenistan with Clean Drinking Water” is being gradually implemented, to the successful implementation of which the labor teams of the “Balkanhydrogeology” expedition teams of the State Corporation “Turkmengeology” in the western region make a significant contribution.

Geologists from the corporation's core enterprises search for rich reserves of hydrocarbon raw materials, conduct research and exploration of groundwater sources, various types of minerals, and deposits of raw materials for construction materials.

At a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers held on January 19, 2024 via the digital system, the President of Turkmenistan, Serdar Berdimuhamedov, emphasizing the importance of effective exploration of new groundwater deposits, set specific tasks for the State Concern «Turkmengeology».

Expedition specialists are conducting detailed hydrogeological exploration work in the western region.  In 2023, the company successfully completed the drilling of 83 new vertical wells.  The total depth of the drilling work carried out is 6 thousand 353 meters.  This indicator corresponds to the implementation of the established plan by 110 percent.  Of these, drilling work at a depth of 5 thousand 747 meters was carried out according to plan, and 606 meters was contracted work.

The expedition's specialists successfully carry out work on groundwater exploration using modern technology, determining its reserves, as well as commissioning drilled vertical wells.  The activities of the expedition team also include such tasks as a re-assessment of the fresh and slightly saline groundwater reserves of the Janakhyr groundwater deposit in the Gyzylarbat etrap of the Balkan region, a detailed examination of fresh and slightly saline groundwater in the territory between the villages of Magtymguly and Chendir, an assessment and detailed examination of the groundwater reserves of the deposit  “Purnuvar” of the Gyzylarbat etrap, studying the regime and balance of groundwater throughout the region, drilling production wells, etc.

The main activities of the expedition are aimed at improving the drinking water supply of the population of the western region, improving the irrigation of farmland and pastures.  These urgent works are carried out on the basis of the geological exploration plan of the corporation and the order of the major office of the Balkan region.

Last year, as a result of work carried out to reassess the reserves of fresh and brackish waters of the Janakhyr groundwater deposit in the Gyzylarbat etrap, groundwater reserves were calculated at the level of 3 thousand 456 cubic meters per day, which was confirmed by the State Commission for Mineral Reserves under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan.

Thus, the growth rate of groundwater reserves in this field is 1 thousand 226 cubic meters per day.  These groundwaters are rationally used for household and drinking water supply to the population and land irrigation.

The current pace of work at the enterprise confirms that the plan for this year will also be successfully implemented.  This is evidenced by the planned geological surveys carried out in January with a total depth of 448 meters instead of 420 meters, as well as contract work of about 81 meters.
