Turkmenistan has all the necessary infrastructure to become an important transit hub for cargo transportation between Europe and Asia.  This was stated by Deputy Director General of the Agency for Transport and Communications under the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Batyr Annaev, speaking at the opening of the investment forum on sustainable transport Global Gateway in Brussels, the Turkmendenizderyayollary Agency reports.

According to Annayev, in recent years Turkmenistan has actively invested in the development of transport infrastructure – more than 5,000 km of railways, an international seaport in Turkmenbashi with a capacity of 17 million tons per year, the construction of new airports and the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway.  These facilities open up opportunities for organizing sustainable and safe cargo transportation through Central Asia in conditions of global instability.

In addition to the transit of goods, Turkmen infrastructure is also of interest for investment by European companies.  Annaev invited all interested parties to discuss joint projects in the field of logistics and the creation of trade and logistics hubs in Turkmenistan.

At the forum that opened, several initiatives were announced to develop sustainable transport links between Central Asia and Europe.  Issues of reducing cargo delivery times, increasing transportation efficiency and improving infrastructure were also discussed.
