As part of a working visit to the UAE on January 4-5, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov held a meeting with the Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dragon Oil, Syed Al Tayer, TDH reports.  At the end of the meeting in the presence of Hero-Arkadag, the State Concern “Türkmennebit” and the company “Dragon Oil (Turkmenistan) Ltd.”  signed a Memorandum of Understanding.

During the meeting, the head of Dragon Oil congratulated the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan on the successful meeting held the day before with the President of the UAE, which will write a new bright chapter in the history of Turkmen-UAE relations.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that the United Arab Emirates is a long-standing and reliable partner with which Turkmenistan successfully interacts both on a bilateral and multilateral basis.

As noted, Turkmenistan, having enormous reserves of hydrocarbon resources, advocates establishing mutually beneficial cooperation with the world's leading companies engaged in their exploration, development and production.  Among them is the Dragon Oil company, which has established itself as a responsible and reliable partner.

During the meeting, the possibilities of building up long-term successful cooperation, taking into account the accumulated experience of joint work and the grandiose plans of Turkmenistan for the further development of the fuel and energy complex, were discussed.

As Hero-Arkadag emphasized, among the priority tasks set for this key industry is to increase the volume of production and refining of oil and natural gas, as well as the export of Turkmen energy resources and finished oil and gas chemical products.

In this regard, special importance is attached to the implementation of the TAPI (Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India) gas pipeline project, which is designed to give a powerful impetus to the socio-economic development of the entire Asian region.  In the future, the source for ensuring the supply of “blue fuel” through this main pipeline will be the third stage of development of the giant Galkynysh field.

In this regard, partners and investors from the UAE are also invited to participate in the implementation of new energy projects related to the construction of gas pipeline infrastructure designed to supply natural Turkmen gas to the countries of the region and other states, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted.

It was also noted that Dragon Oil, whose head office is located in Dubai (UAE), has been operating in Turkmenistan since 2000 on the basis of a Production Sharing Agreement.  The main area of its activity is the production of hydrocarbons in the contract territory “Cheleken” in the Caspian Sea.  Over the years, the company has invested heavily in exploration and development of fields, in particular Jeýtun and Jygalybeg.

Recently, Dragon Oil opened its new office in Ashgabat, which was another confirmation of the established long-term, strategic partnership.

Thanking for the support provided, Syed Al Tayer assured that the company he heads will continue to strictly fulfill all its obligations.

Hero-Arkadag and the businessman expressed confidence that the existing mutual interest will become the basis for further fruitful cooperation in the oil and gas sector.
