On Thursday, Prime Minister of Hungary Viktor Orban arrived in the capital of Turkmenistan on a two-day official visit, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reports.

Today, the Turkmen-Hungarian high-level talks will take place, following which it is planned to sign a package of bilateral documents designed to give impetus to the development of cooperation between Turkmenistan and Hungary.

The evening before, the head of the Hungarian government met with the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The head of the People’s Council of Turkmenistan recalled his visit to Hungary in June 2014, during which a Joint Statement was adopted that determined the contours of the Turkmen-Hungarian partnership, TDH reports.

Viktor Orban stressed that he was sincerely glad to have the opportunity to visit Turkmenistan, which today plays a key role in Central Asia.

The Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty and the head of the Hungarian government exchanged views on the state and prospects for the development of the Turkmen-Hungarian partnership.

Speaking about the upcoming talks at the top on June 9 and the documents planned for signing, the head of the Halk Maslakhaty focused on a number of important areas.  Promising areas include trade, energy, industrial cooperation, logistics, agriculture and the private sector.

Speaking about energy, the head of the Halk Maslakhaty noted the coincidence of the positions of the two countries on the issue of reliable and stable transit of energy resources and its role in ensuring sustainable development.  Earlier, Hungary twice acted as a co-author of the UN General Assembly resolutions put forward by Turkmenistan in this area.

“Turkmenistan, which has colossal reserves of natural gas, is open for cooperation and is ready for a more detailed discussion of this topic,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

Among other priorities, the head of the People’s Council named cooperation in the transport sector, expansion of related infrastructure and the creation of transit and transport corridors, primarily in the East-West direction.

Hero-Arkadag also noted the interest of Turkmenistan in partnership in the pharmaceutical industry.  About 150 medicines and medical devices of Hungarian production are registered in Turkmenistan.  Cooperation has been established with the Gedeon Richter company, which has its representative office in Turkmenistan.

In this context, a proposal was made to establish a joint production facility in Turkmenistan for the production of medicines and medical devices.
