Representatives of Turkmenistan and the EU discussed prospects for cooperation in the field of «green energy» and methane emissions

 The joint conference of the European Union and Turkmenistan on the topic «Green energy and EU strategies for the use of hydrogen and the reduction of methane emissions» was held in Ashgabat on November 22 – 23. This was reported by the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.

 EU representatives presented the main directions of policy in the field of renewable energy and the prospects for their development, shared their experience of international and regional cooperation in this area.  They also presented the EU strategy for the use of hydrogen and the reduction of methane emissions and invited Turkmenistan to join relevant international initiatives.

 The conference was attended by scientists and specialists from Turkmenistan and the European Union in the field of green energy, hydrogen energy and methane emissions.

 Representatives of the International Energy Agency, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, the Global Methane Initiative, Hydrogen Europe, the German Ambassador to Turkmenistan, representatives of the State Energy Institute of Turkmenistan, the Natural Gas Research Institute under the State Concern «Turkmengas», the International University of Oil and  gas named after Yagshigeldy Kakaev and others.

 The experts of Turkmenistan reported on the use of renewable energy sources in the country, the roadmap for international cooperation in the field of hydrogen energy for 2022-2023 and the creation of an export-oriented hydrogen energy sector in Turkmenistan.  They also discussed the use of modern environmentally friendly resource-saving technologies, in particular, in the oil and gas, energy and transport industries.

 During the conference, participants from the EU and Turkmenistan exchanged experiences and discussed prospects for further cooperation in the field of renewable energy, the use of renewable hydrogen and the reduction of methane emissions.  The parties reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation in a way that promotes mutual interests.

 The parties discussed a wide range of issues, including the development of legislation in the field of renewable energy sources, investments in renewable energy sources and innovative technologies, and the prospects for the use of hydrogen.

 The EU and Turkmenistan agreed to continue the dialogue on the discussed key topics in order to identify specific ways of cooperation, the Foreign Ministry notes.
