Preparations for the implementation of energy projects discussed at talks in Islamabad

 The issues of practical implementation of the projects of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline and the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) power transmission lines were discussed in Islamabad by the delegation of Turkmenistan, which, on behalf of President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, is on a working visit to Pakistan on January 31 – February 4,  informs the website of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan.

 The Turkmen delegation is headed by Deputy Foreign Minister Vepa Khadzhiev.  On Monday, these issues were discussed at a meeting with the Minister of Energy of Pakistan, Muhammad Hammad Azhar.  The Pakistani delegation got acquainted with the achieved milestones, ongoing work and future plans for the TAPI gas pipeline project and with the conceptual directions for the implementation of the TAP power transmission line project.

 Expressing appreciation for the large-scale work on the projects of the TAPI gas pipeline and the TAP power line, the Pakistani side emphasized Pakistan's full commitment to the implementation of these projects.

 Following the meeting, the parties agreed to hold meetings at the level of technical specialists in the near future to discuss the practical implementation of the TAPI gas pipeline and TAP power lines and the preparation of a Roadmap for these works.

 On the same day, the Turkmen delegation met with the Secretary (Deputy Minister) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, Sohail Mahmoud.  During the talks, the parties discussed issues of cooperation between the two countries in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres.  The need to expand the partnership between the two countries in the field of security was also emphasized.

 Emphasizing the importance of the joint Turkmen-Pakistani intergovernmental commission in strengthening bilateral ties, the parties noted the expediency of holding the next sixth meeting of the commission this year.

 The parties also discussed issues related to the implementation of the projects of the TAPI gas pipeline and the TAP power line.  The Pakistani side noted that these major projects are necessary to ensure the energy security of the country and stressed that the Government of Pakistan fully supports the implementation of these projects.

Since the opening of the transnational Turkmenistan-China gas pipeline in 2009, over 320 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas have been exported to the Celestial Empire. General director of the branch of the National Petroleum Corporation of China (CNPC) Chen Huailong stated this, the Watan news program of the Turkmen television reported.
