Turkmenistan and Malaysia agreed to develop cooperation in the oil and gas and other sectors

On June 19, talks were held in Ashgabat between President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Prime Minister of Malaysia Anwar Ibrahim, who arrived in Turkmenistan on an official visit at the head of a government delegation, TDH reports.

The Turkmen leader noted that Turkmen-Malaysian relations have been developing consistently and effectively for over thirty years. During this time, nine mutual high-level visits have been conducted, and a legal framework for cooperation has been established, including a large package of intergovernmental and interdepartmental documents.

The President of Turkmenistan noted the significant potential for further strengthening the Turkmen-Malaysian partnership. Trade, economic, and investment sectors were identified as important areas of bilateral relations.

As noted, the oil and gas sector is a strategic area of ​​Turkmen-Malaysian cooperation. The head of state emphasized that Petronas is one of our country's key partners, praising its activities in Turkmenistan.

"In order to implement large-scale and long-term projects in the oil and gas industry, a number of important bilateral documents have been prepared. Based on these documents, large-scale work will soon begin with Petronas' participation to develop new hydrocarbon fields in the Turkmen part of the Caspian Sea, as well as to conduct research at promising oil and gas complexes in the Caspian Sea," the President of Turkmenistan continued.

Speaking to the media following the talks, Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that an agreement had been reached to strengthen relations in a number of economic sectors, particularly in such areas as industry, agriculture, textiles, high technology, technical and engineering cooperation, banking and finance, and urban development.

Turkmenistan and Malaysia will expand their partnership in the transport and logistics sector, including the creation of an East-West corridor, the head of state emphasized.

The President of Turkmenistan noted that the distinguished guest's current visit is intended to strengthen interstate relations. They also expressed confidence that today's meeting confirms the two countries' readiness for further joint activities.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim stated that Turkmenistan is a strategically important partner for Malaysia. He emphasized that consistently developing cooperation with Petronas forms an important foundation for the bilateral partnership. The agreements reached during the current visit in the fuel and energy sector will contribute to the further expansion of cooperation.
