Turkmenistan's total natural gas supply to China has reached 450 billion cubic meters, providing a powerful impetus to the economic and social development of both countries, said Chen Huailong, President of CNPC for Central Asia and Russia, at the 30th International Conference "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan 2025" (OGT 2025), according to the Turkmenistan International Information Center.

Chen Huailong noted that as the global energy system moves toward a clean and low-carbon future, natural gas plays an indispensable pivotal role.

With its abundant reserves, Turkmenistan has significant advantages in meeting growing global energy demand and helping countries achieve their low-carbon development goals by actively expanding and diversifying export routes, the businessman said.

Looking back on the past 19 years of energy cooperation, a CNPC representative stated that China and Turkmenistan have achieved fruitful results, particularly in the gas sector. Since the signing of key agreements in 2007, cooperation has expanded in many areas—from field development (the Bagtyyarlyk block) and trade to engineering.

Chen Huailong highlighted the recent agreements reached by Chinese President Xi Jinping and Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, which confirm the strategic nature of the bilateral partnership.

He stated that, going forward, CNPC has reaffirmed its commitment to developing a comprehensive strategic partnership and intends to deepen energy cooperation with the State Concern “Turkmengas” across the entire gas supply chain. The company will continue to strengthen and expand this collaboration, ensuring stable production, increased gas recovery, and safe pipeline operation. Furthermore, the businessman noted, CNPC will accelerate the transformation of green energy by promoting joint research and development in renewable energy, hydrogen energy, and methane emission reduction. This is intended to help Turkmenistan optimize its energy mix and achieve its carbon emission reduction goals.

Cooperation will also be deepened in infrastructure digitalization (smart energy grids, digital pipelines) and strengthening Turkmenistan's human resources base through various training mechanisms.
