The Presidents of Turkmenistan and Tajikistan discussed priority areas of cooperation

Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, who arrived in Dushanbe on October 9 for a working visit, met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, TDH reports.

The Tajik President emphasized that the current visit by the Turkmen leader will further strengthen friendly relations between the two countries.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted that Turkmenistan and Tajikistan share common and similar positions on key issues of global and regional politics and expressed gratitude to the Tajik side for its support of Turkmenistan's policy of positive neutrality and international initiatives.

The parties exchanged views on cooperation between Central Asian countries in regional security and environmental protection. In this regard, the significance of the High-Level International Conference on Glacier Conservation, held in Dushanbe in May, was emphasized, demonstrating the important role of glaciers in maintaining ecological balance and addressing water issues in the region.

As noted, trade and economic cooperation is also a priority area of ​​bilateral relations. The parties emphasized the need to take the necessary measures to fully unlock the two countries' potential in this area, increase mutual trade, and diversify economic ties.

In this regard, the role of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Tajik Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, and Technical Cooperation, the last meeting of which was held in Ashgabat in October 2024, was emphasized. In this context, it was proposed to hold the next meeting of the commission in the near future. It was also noted that Turkmenistan and Tajikistan attach great importance to developing relations in the fields of culture, science, and education.

At the end of the meeting, Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Emomali Rahmon reaffirmed the commitment of both countries to further developing and strengthening friendly relations.

As reported by TDH, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov arrived in Tajikistan on a working visit to participate in the second Central Asia-Russia Summit and the regular meeting of the CIS Council of Heads of State.
