Turkmen natural gas supplies to Turkey will start on March 1, 2025 and will be carried out via Iran as part of a barter scheme. This was stated by Turkish Ambassador to Turkmenistan Ahmet Demirok on Friday at a press conference for Turkmen and foreign media.
Turkey and Turkmenistan have reached a historic agreement on the supply of Turkmen gas to Turkey. On February 10, 2025, a corresponding agreement was signed between BOTAŞ and “Turkmengas”. Gas supplies will start on March 1, 2025 and will be carried out via Iran as part of a barter scheme, the ambassador noted.
This event is the result of many years of negotiations and marks an important step in strengthening energy cooperation between the two countries. The agreement provides for the supply of up to 2 billion cubic meters of gas per year, the diplomat added. The Turkish Ambassador to Turkmenistan stressed that this agreement is an important step towards ensuring energy security for both Turkey and the region as a whole. He also noted that Turkmenistan is a reliable partner in the global energy market. According to the Ambassador, in the long term, Turkey is interested in implementing the Trans-Caspian Gas Pipeline project, which will increase the volume of gas supplies from Turkmenistan and send it to the European market.
