At the international conference "Construction, Industry, Energy of Turkmenistan" (CIET 2024) in Ashgabat, GIZ Coordinator in Turkmenistan Joachim Fritz presented new initiatives of the organization aimed at supporting the country's energy sector, News Central Asia (nCa) reports.

According to him, special attention was paid to the development of renewable energy sources and energy efficiency.

Fritz emphasized that GIZ is implementing several projects in Central Asia aimed at achieving energy efficiency and developing renewable energy sources.

The project "European Union for Green Turkmenistan: Political Dialogue on Climate Action 2024-2028" was launched in Turkmenistan jointly with the European Union and the German Foreign Ministry. The goal of the project is to support Turkmenistan in implementing the national strategy on climate change and establishing an effective political dialogue with the European Union in the field of energy and environmental protection.

Fritz noted that in May 2024, a memorandum was signed between the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan, GIZ, and the State Concern «Turkmengas». The aim of the project is to establish an effective political dialogue between the European Union in the field of energy, environmental protection and climate policy, as well as to support Turkmenistan in implementing a national strategy on climate change.

The project envisages the implementation of two small pilot projects. One is on the implementation of measures to adapt to climate change, it will focus on the installation of equipment and software for detecting and eliminating leaks. The second project will focus on cleaning drainage water using algae and installing a solar-powered water pumping system.

In addition, according to Fritz, a memorandum of understanding on a new renewable energy project in Central Asia will be signed within the framework of the conference, which aims to strengthen the framework conditions for regional and national integration of renewable energy sources in Central Asia, nCa reports.
