Natural gas occupies a leading position as a way to meet the world's growing energy needs. According to the analysis of the International Energy Agency, natural gas consumption will grow by almost 20% by 2030 and remain generally at the same level until 2040. This was stated by the Deputy Chairman of the State Concern "Turkmengas" Murad Archayev in his presentation at the International Conference "Oil and Gas of Turkmenistan - 2024".
Given the high demand for natural gas in the coming years, Turkmenistan is gradually developing and developing the supergiant Galkynysh field, and is also making efforts to bring its energy resources to world markets, Archayev noted.
In his speech, the speaker emphasized that there are great opportunities for transporting Turkmen natural gas in all directions. Thus, the main goal of the mutual cooperation agreement signed on March 1, 2024 by the State Concern "Turkmengas" and the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey is to develop cooperation in the field of natural gas and is aimed at supplying Turkmen natural gas to Turkey and subsequent transit to world markets.
The agreement between the State Concern "Turkmengas" and the National Oil and Gas Company of Iran, signed in August 2024, is aimed at supplying Turkmen natural gas to Iran, as well as transit under the swap scheme through Iran to Iraq, in the southern direction to Turkey and European countries.
State Concern "Turkmengas" plans to implement large gas projects in order to further increase the country's export potential - among them the construction of an underground gas storage facility, Karakum and Shatlyk compressor stations at gas condensate fields, as well as the construction of Zyakli-Derveze gas cleaning units, Archayev continued.
"These projects are planned to be implemented by attracting foreign contractors on the basis of international tenders, in this regard, "Turkmengas" invites large foreign companies and financial institutions to participate in the implementation of large gas projects in Turkmenistan, including the development of gas fields, construction of gas pipelines and other promising projects by attracting investments," Archayev emphasized.
The presentation also touched upon environmental aspects in the activities of enterprises in the oil and gas industry of Turkmenistan.
"In recent years, in connection with climate change and global warming, the United Nations and other international environmental organizations have adopted historically important documents. In this regard, Turkmenistan, being a country that produces and processes hydrocarbon resources, also carries out relevant work to implement projects in order to comply with environmental obligations," Archayev said. “In particular, in the near future it is planned to hold international tenders for the modernization and reconstruction of oil and gas facilities in Turkmenistan, as well as the introduction of new technologies and provision of the necessary equipment to eliminate methane emissions,” noted the Deputy Chairman of the State Concern "Turkmengas".
