Turkmenistan plans to significantly increase natural gas supplies to Iran. This was stated by the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov during talks with the President of the Islamic Republic of Iran Masoud Pezeshkian, which took place the day before in Tehran, TDH reports.

During the talks, the gas sector was identified as one of the main areas of economic cooperation. As the Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty emphasized, the Turkmen side plans to increase gas supplies to Iran to 40 billion cubic meters per year.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov added that achieving this goal requires modernization of the gas pipeline infrastructure, construction of new facilities and attraction of investments.

In particular, it is planned to build two gas compressor stations and a 125 km gas pipeline on the territory of Turkmenistan. This will allow additional volumes of Turkmen natural gas to be supplied to Iran to the Chaloyuk gas metering station.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov also emphasized that in the near future, it is planned to export Turkmen natural gas through Iran to Iraq and then to Turkey under the SWAP scheme.
