This holiday is especially dear to all. Victory in the Great Patriotic War required unimaginable efforts and perseverance, unshakeable spirit and unity from all brotherly peoples. Along with other fraternal nations, the courageous people of Turkmenistan bravely endured severe trials during the war years, demonstrating the highest moral qualities, examples of bravery, valor, heroism, and patriotism in the bloody battle for peace, tranquility, and a prosperous life on earth.
The military feat and courage of heroic ancestors are inscribed in golden letters in the glorious history of our Motherland. During the harsh war years, more than 265,000 brave Turkmen fought on the front. Many of them were awarded combat orders and medals for their displayed heroism. 104 warriors were honored with the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union, and 19 front-line soldiers became full Cavaliers of the Order of Glory.
Among the WWII participants is the grandfather of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, the great-grandfather of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov – Berdymuhamed Annayev, whose life path is a worthy example of faithful service to the country and people.
The memory of the heroes' feat will always live in our hearts, further uniting the brotherly peoples, and will serve as a reliable foundation for strengthening interstate relations.
