The development of transport corridors of Turkmenistan in the East-West and North-South directions remains one of the priority goals, the success of which is largely determined by the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat expressway with a length of 600 kilometers, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov said at the opening ceremony of its second section - Tejen-Mary, which took place April 17.
“The development of the country’s modern transport corridors in the East-West and North-South directions remains one of the priority goals, the success of which is largely determined by the high-speed Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway with a length of 600 kilometers. The construction of the highway is another evidence of the revival of the ancient route - the Great Silk Road - in a modern format,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov said.
“The Ashgabat-Turkmenabat highway, the route of which runs through the territory of the Ahal and Mary regions, will connect Ashgabat with the Lebap region and will allow covering the huge distance between the capital and the region in a very short time. It will also ensure unimpeded transportation of passengers and cargo,” the President noted in his speech.
“The completion of the Ashgabat-Turkmenabat high-speed highway will provide an opportunity to significantly increase the capacity of the country’s transport system and the quality of logistics services. Improving the transport system, in turn, will have a huge impact on the dynamics of the national economy,” Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized.
As the President noted, Turkmenistan’s advantageous location at the junction of two continents “gives a huge advantage in the formation of an international transport and logistics corridor, the integration of the domestic transport sector into the global system and the expansion of trade and economic ties with partner countries”.
“Therefore, we will continue to be constructively engaged in the construction of highways in the country and the formation of international transport corridors,” the head of state concluded.
