The development of Turkmen-Afghan cooperation was discussed yesterday at a meeting between Deputy Foreign Minister of Turkmenistan Vepa Khadzhiyev and Chief of Staff of the President of Afghanistan Mohammad Shakir Kargar, held via videoconference, the website of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reports.

Given that political development is closely linked to economic growth, the Turkmen side is promoting a number of significant projects with the participation of Afghanistan.

As Kargar noted, the construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, the TAP power transmission line, the development of rail links, the implementation of the transport "Lapis Lazuli Corridor" and other infrastructure projects are a clear example of the commitment of the two countries to expand cooperation.

During the meeting, it was noted that between Turkmenistan and Afghanistan there was a solid package of bilateral documents regulating the strategic partnership of the parties in the field of transport, communications, energy, construction and much more.  The legal framework for cooperation was supplemented by a number of bilateral and multilateral acts signed in September and October 2020.

During the meeting, the need was expressed to continue work on the implementation of joint projects with the active participation of public and private structures of the two countries.  The parties reaffirmed their commitment to the development of bilateral ties across the entire spectrum of cooperation, the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan notes.
