On Thursday, June 29, with the participation of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, large-scale celebrations were held in honor of the opening of the first stage of the new city of Arkadag, built 30 kilometers from the capital of Turkmenistan on the initiative of the Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

The opening ceremony was attended by numerous foreign guests who specially arrived in Turkmenistan on this occasion.

The celebrations started on the square near the monument of the legendary horse “Akhan” – a representative of the famous Akhal-Teke breed of horses, which is a world record holder, included in the Guinness Book of Records.  Then the head of Turkmenistan and numerous guests went to the Main Square of the city of Arkadag, where the opening ceremony of the Arkadag monument took place.

The President of Turkmenistan and high-ranking guests got acquainted with the features of a number of specialized facilities and residential buildings built in Arkadag.  As part of the first phase of the construction of the city, 336 social, cultural and other facilities were built.

During the opening ceremony, the President of Turkmenistan and the guests visited the Ruhyet Palace, where, during the solemn meeting, the Turkmen side was awarded more than twenty international certificates and diplomas confirming the achievements of the city of Arkadag in various fields.

The city of Arkadag, built in the foothills of the Kopetdag, has become the first “smart” city in Turkmenistan, the functioning of which is based on advanced digital, information and communication and “green” technologies.  Eco-friendly public transport – electric buses and electric taxis – will run along its roads.

“Smart” residential buildings, buildings of the regional administration, medical, educational and cultural institutions, the Higher International School of Horse Breeding, the Research and Production Center for Horse Breeding and others have been built here.

In March 2023, the President of Turkmenistan signed a decree ordering the implementation of the second phase of the construction of the city of Arkadag until 2026.  Within its framework, a number of new facilities will be built, including industrial enterprises for the production of medicines from local herbs and medical products, using locally produced polyethylene and polypropylene.

A bright part of the opening ceremony of the city of Arkadag was the performance of creative teams that prepared a colorful song and musical composition, as well as a festive parade.

The culmination of the holiday was a drone show that depicted the sights of the new city, a map of Turkmenistan, national gels, historical artifacts, and colorful fireworks in the evening sky.
