On Tuesday, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will take part in the Conference of Foreign Ministers (CMFA) of the Caspian states dedicated to the preparation of the Sixth Caspian Summit, which will be held in Ashgabat on June 29, Interfax reports.

As Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova reported, at the Ministerial Council in Ashgabat «it is planned to review cooperation in the Caspian Sea and discuss the modalities of further cooperation in preparation for the upcoming meeting of the presidents of the Caspian Five».

Sergei Lavrov last week, during his visit to Baku, noted the need for full implementation of the Convention on the Legal Status of the Caspian Sea.  According to him, «there is a common understanding that the leaders of the five Caspian states during their meeting on June 29 in Ashgabat will confirm the significance of this document and the key principles contained in it».

The previous similar ministerial meeting was held in the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan on August 11, 2018.
