An international tender for the construction of the country's first hybrid solar and wind power plant with a capacity of 10 MW in the Balkan region has been announced by the Ministry of Energy of Turkmenistan.  Proposals are accepted until August 6, 2021.

It will be the country's first renewable power plant.  At a government meeting last Friday, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that this hybrid station would initiate work carried out in the country in the field of renewable energy sources, emp that the most advanced technologies and know-how would be installed there.

According to the President, the implementation of this project would become a concrete practical step in the implementation of the National Strategy of Turkmenistan for the development of renewable energy.

An agreement on the allocation of a loan for the construction of a hybrid solar-wind power plant with a capacity of 10 MW in the amount of US $25 million was signed with the Abu Dhabi Development Fund during a visit to the UAE on June 10, 2021 of a Turkmen delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister, Chairman of the Supreme Control Chamber of Turkmenistan Serdar  Berdymukhamedov.

At a government meeting last Friday, the President of Turkmenistan signed a decree according to which a loan was provided to the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs for 15 years with a grace period of 3 years at 4% per annum.  The same decree instructed the Ministry of Energy of the country to conclude an internal Credit Agreement with the State Bank for Foreign Economic Affairs for a period of up to 15 years with a grace period of 3 years at 4.5% per annum.

In May 2019, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov launched the construction of a modern village in the Karakum desert near the artificial lake «Altyn Asyr».  Wind and solar installations will be used here to generate electricity.
