Turkmenistan's GDP growth in the first quarter was 5.9%

In the first quarter of 2021, Turkmenistan's GDP grew by 5.9%. This was announced by the Vice Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Gadyrgeldy Mushshikov at a government meeting last Friday, at which the results of the socio-economic development of the country for January-March of this year were considered.

In general, the volume of products produced in comparison with the same period last year increased by 3.2%, the Deputy Prime Minister said.

He also noted that in January-March of this year, the retail trade turnover indicator increased by 17.7% compared to the same period in 2020.

Wages for large and medium-sized enterprises in the country increased by 10.5% compared to the same period in 2020. Salaries, pensions, state benefits and student scholarships have been fully funded, Mushikov said.

At the government meeting, it was also reported that the volume of capital investments aimed at the development of the national economy at the expense of all sources of financing for January-March amounted to 4.1 billion manats, or in relation to GDP – 17.1%.

The investment program for the reporting period was executed at the level of 11.1%. According to the results of three months, 48.2% of the developed capital investments were directed to the construction of industrial complexes, and 51.8%– to social and cultural facilities.
