The partnership in the field of energy and transport was discussed on Thursday by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov and his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif, who arrived in Ashgabat on a two-day visit at the head of a representative Iranian delegation, the website of the Foreign Ministry of Turkmenistan reports.
During the inter-MFA consultations, special attention was paid to the intensification of trade and economic cooperation. Noting the great potential of interaction in this area, the parties agreed to organize a series of meetings in the near future in preparation for the next meeting of the Intergovernmental Turkmen-Iranian Commission on Economic Cooperation.
The parties assessed the level of trade between the two countries and considered partnerships in the field of energy, transport, etc. The need to organize joint events, exhibitions and forums to expand business ties was emphasized.
The possibilities of cooperation in the development of the transport and transit potential of the region were also discussed in detail. In this context, the emphasis was placed on the potential of such regional transport corridors with the participation of Turkmenistan as the Lapis Lazuli Corridor and the international transport route «Caspian Sea – Black Sea» and the resulting possibility of Iran's participation in the implementation of these corridors.
