President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov called on the Turkic-speaking countries to cooperate in the field of energy security, development of transport and communication spheres and fight against the pandemic. The Turkmen leader spoke as an honorary guest at the informal Summit of the Cooperation Council of Turkic-speaking States (Turkic Council), held on March 31 via videoconference.

"Turkmenistan has proposed to establish negotiations on global energy security within the framework of international organizations, especially at the UN level," the President said. - The relevant resolutions in this area have gained the support of the UN General Assembly. The Turkmen side invites the states interested in creating a system of universal energy security to take an active part in this matter.

-Turkmenistan will carry out constructive international cooperation to bring oil and gas resources and electricity to the world markets,- Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov stressed, expressing confidence that it will be very beneficial for all countries, including the Turkic-speaking states.

The Turkmen leader also noted that the Turkic-speaking countries have a huge potential for joint implementation of effective measures in the transport and communication sector.

The President recalled that the UN General Assembly, on the initiative of Turkmenistan and with the support of the participating states of the current Summit, adopted three resolutions in the field of development of all types of transport. In order to translate these international documents into practice, a lot of work is being done today to create global transport and transit corridors.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov expressed confidence that «the fraternal Turkic-speaking states will take an active part in joint work aimed at further development of international transport support systems."

The President also called on the Turkic-speaking countries to cooperate in the field of ecology and environmental protection related to the disaster in the Aral Sea region.

The Head of Turkmenistan also focused on the issue of combating the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Our country was among the first to take comprehensive measures to prevent COVID-19 from entering its territory," Berdimuhamedov said.

In this regard, the head of Turkmenistan stressed that «it would be right if, in the future, medical institutions and research institutes of the countries participating in the Summit, shoulder to shoulder, together with the international community, will work to combat the coronavirus pandemic."
