Until 2035, “Gazprom” plans to increase purchases of natural gas from Turkmenistan. This is provided for by the draft general scheme for the development of the gas industry in Russia until 2035, TASS reports.

"According to the gas strategy, Russia in 2020-2035 can increase gas supplies from Turkmenistan to 5.5 billion cubic meters of gas per year and Uzbekistan to 8 billion cubic meters in comparison with the volume of 2019," the statement said.

In 2019, gas supplies from Turkmenistan to Russia amounted to 4 billion cubic meters, from Uzbekistan - 7.7 billion cubic meters and from Kazakhstan - 14.2 billion. As follows from the general gas import scheme, supplies from Kazakhstan are planned in 2021 at the level 13.1 billion cubic meters, down to 12.3 billion cubic meters in 2022-2035.

According to the document, in 2020, gas imports from Central Asia, according to preliminary estimates, amounted to 26 billion cubic meters.

In terms of natural gas reserves, Turkmenistan is among the first four countries in the world after Russia, Iran and Qatar. Recently, a gas compressor station was commissioned at the “Malay” gas field to ensure stable gas exports to the PRC. At present, Turkmenistan is the leader in the supply of pipeline gas to the PRC.

As previously reported, for 9 months of 2020, Gazprom increased its purchases of natural gas in Turkmenistan to 3.2 billion cubic meters, compared to 2.6 billion cubic meters in the same period in 2019.

At the same time, for three quarters of 2020, Gazprom reduced gas smoking in Kazakhstan to 5.1 billion cubic meters from 8.2 billion cubic meters in the same period in 2019. Since early 2020, Gazprom has hardly bought any natural gas from Uzbekistan.
