Turkmen and German experts discussed medicinal properties of licorice in the fight against COVID-19

The medicinal properties of licorice root and the active substance in its composition, glycyrrhizic acid, in the fight against COVID-19 were discussed on January 19 during an online meeting of Turkmen specialists with the head of the Virology Center of the Essen University Hospital (Germany), Professor, Dr. A. Kravchik.

From the Turkmen side, the meeting was attended by the Minister of Health and Medical Industry Nurmuhammet Amannepesov, as well as the heads and representatives of the Academy of Sciences, the “Turkmendermansenagat”

Association and State Medical University named after Myrat Garryev.

As you know, in connection with the pandemic of the new coronavirus, scientific and research work has intensified worldwide, aimed at identifying and developing special antiviral drugs.

In this context, the relevant scientific studies of scientists have confirmed the therapeutic and prophylactic effect of drugs from licorice, as well as glycyrrhizic acid, which is contained in its composition in a significant proportion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.

Since ancient times, licorice root has been used by the people in the treatment of diseases of the upper respiratory tract, and in view of the positive effect, scientists of Turkmenistan continue to study the properties of this plant in accordance with the instructions of the President of Turkmenistan.

Recall that on December 25, 2020, at a regular meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan, President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that licorice growing in our country and drugs prepared from it can help in the fight against a new type of coronavirus infection.

In this regard, the head of state instructed the President of the Academy of Sciences and the Minister of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan to conduct research in this area.
