Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Mohammed Hamel, speaking at the International Forum on Attracting Foreign Investments in the Economy of Turkmenistan (TEIF 2025), announced a forecast according to which the volume of gas production in Turkmenistan will double by 2050 and will amount to 150 billion cubic meters.

“The development of large fields, such as the second largest gas field in the world, combined with the expansion of the pipeline network will allow Turkmenistan to almost double its current gas production, while, according to GECF forecasts, by the middle of the century, production could exceed 150 billion cubic meters”, said Mohammed Hamel.

He noted that thanks to its rapidly developing energy infrastructure, Turkmenistan is strengthening its ties with key regional markets, supplying natural gas to China, Central Asia, the Middle East, and possibly Europe in the future.

The GECF Secretary General also said that China and India are projected to be the two largest consumers of natural gas, together accounting for more than a third of the total consumption growth.

“China’s gas consumption is expected to exceed 660 billion cubic meters by 2050, making it the second-largest consumer of natural gas in the world after the United States. In India, the share of natural gas in the national energy balance will increase, and demand is projected to more than double to reach about 230 billion cubic meters by 2050”, he said.

The TEIF 2025 International Investment Forum was held in the capital of Malaysia on April 23-24.  The event was attended by 470 delegates from 42 countries. The forum was organized by the State Concerns "Turkmengas", "Turkmennebit" and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan in partnership with the Turkmen Energy Forum company.
