As part of his visit to Uzbekistan to participate in the first Central Asia-European Union Summit, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with the President of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) Odile Renaud-Basso on April 3, TDH reports.

As the head of state noted, in implementing the economic development strategy, Turkmenistan attaches particular importance to strengthening and expanding partnerships with reputable financial organizations and credit and banking structures. In this regard, the effective nature of long-term cooperation with the EBRD was noted.

Highly appreciating the level of economic development of Turkmenistan, Odile Renaud-Basso confirmed the interest of the structure she heads in further expanding mutually beneficial contacts.

Noting the work being done to create multi-vector and regionally significant international transport corridors North-South and East-West, the President confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness to consider specific proposals from the EBRD for participation in projects implemented in this area.

Having focused on the issues of increasing cooperation in the energy sector, Serdar Berdimuhamedov emphasized that in our country, along with the diversification of this sphere, targeted activities are being carried out to develop "green" energy.

In this context, it was noted that there are ample opportunities for the EBRD to participate in sustainable energy projects being implemented in Turkmenistan.

As the head of state noted, our country attaches great importance to the development of the agricultural sector, in particular, the economical and rational use of water resources. In this regard, it was emphasized that Turkmenistan supports the cooperation of our country's relevant departments with the EBRD in the construction of irrigation facilities and the introduction of high-tech special equipment.

Turkmenistan is in favor of using new, more effective forms of partnership between national banks and the private sector with this large international financial organization, the head of state said, noting the advisability of activating financial, credit and consulting services in order to develop small and medium-sized businesses.

At the same time, our country's readiness to expand mutually beneficial cooperation with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development was confirmed.
