The National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslahaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov, who is on a working visit to the Balkan region, visited the construction site of the new international airport in the village of Jebel, TDH reports.
In ancient times, the Great Silk Road passed through Turkmenistan, and today, under the leadership of the President of Turkmenistan, much attention is paid to the development of transit and transport corridors. As part of the working visit, Hero-Arkadag got acquainted with the construction of the Balkanabat International Airport, where advanced technologies are used.
Emphasizing the importance of the transport sector, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted the strategic importance of the new airport for the country's integration into the world economy.
At the final stage of construction, a test landing of an aircraft was successfully carried out here, confirming the high quality of the runway. Turkmenistan is actively developing a multimodal transport infrastructure that meets international standards.
Hero-Arkadag got acquainted with the equipment and layout of the infrastructure of the new airport, noting the importance of a high level of passenger service, including those arriving at the Mollakara sanatorium.
Under the leadership of President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, work is underway to modernize civil aviation, build and reconstruct airports. In recent years, modern international airports have been opened in Turkmenistan in the capital, Turkmenbashi and Turkmenabat.
An important aspect of the country's transport policy is international cooperation. In particular, an agreement is in effect with Luxembourg, under which the company "Cargolux" carries out cargo transportation along the Luxembourg-Turkmenbashi route. In recent years, the total volume of transit cargo has reached 417,340 tons, and the number of landings has exceeded 5,960.
Turkmenistan plays an active role in international transport initiatives, including the development of the Europe-Caucasus-Asia (TRACECA) and Afghanistan-Turkmenistan-Azerbaijan-Georgia-Turkey corridors. The UN General Assembly, at the initiative of Turkmenistan, adopted resolutions on transport policy and sustainable development.
The implementation of the new airport project in Jebel will strengthen Turkmenistan's position as an important transport and logistics hub. The country is actively improving infrastructure and developing international cooperation, increasing transit potential.
Hero-Arkadag emphasized the need for quality control and timely completion of construction.
Having completed a working visit to the Balkan region, the national leader of the Turkmen people left for the capital.
