Sustainable energy development issues discussed at an online meeting of the Joint Committee for Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UAE

The development of trade and economic partnership was discussed at the third meeting of the Joint Committee on Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UAE, held on Wednesday in the format of a video conference, the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs Rashid Meredov, the Emirates - by the Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, headed the Turkmen delegation.
After discussing in detail bilateral trade and economic relations, the parties expressed the interest of both countries in expanding the range of cooperation between public and private structures, improving the investment climate.
The meeting participants also exchanged views on the development of the transport potential of Turkmenistan and the UAE and the use of the possibilities of sea, rail and air transport, the use of port infrastructure to promote bilateral and multilateral trade and economic relations.
The preparation of the World “EXPO 2020” in Dubai, postponed to 2021, was also considered, at which Turkmenistan intends to present its best experience in the field of sustainable development and innovation.
It was also noted that Turkmenistan is open to cooperation on the implementation of energy and infrastructure projects, in particular on the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India gas pipeline.
The parties noted the importance of the "green economy" and exchanged views on the use of sustainable energy, promotion of innovative technologies and expert skills in the field of renewable energy. In this regard, Turkmenistan expressed interest in expanding cooperation within the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA).
Special emphasis is placed on interaction within the framework of international organizations, including the UN, OIC, and the Non-Aligned Movement. Gratitude was expressed to the Emirates side for maintaining the neutrality of Turkmenistan and state initiatives in the field of energy and environmental security, sustainable transport, sports, etc.
The ministers also spoke in favor of strengthening practical cooperation in the fields of science, education, culture and sports.
Speaking about the challenges and threats of our time, the parties noted the importance of strengthening international cooperation in the fight against the global pandemic. The ministers exchanged views on further steps to overcome the socio-economic consequences of the pandemic on a global scale.
Following the talks, the protocol of the third meeting of the Joint Committee on Cooperation between Turkmenistan and the UAE was signed.
