Afghan oil workers have started oil production at a field located in the Amu Darya river basin, Afghan media reported.

As the Minister of Mines and Oil of Afghanistan noted, the start of oil production in this region was an important step for the development of the country’s economy.  The development of the deposit will open up opportunities to extract about 100 tons of valuable resource per day.

In the future, the authorities intend to organize the processing of hydrocarbon raw materials in the country.  Proposals for the construction of the first oil refinery in Afghanistan were made during the ceremony of the start of oil production, which was attended by representatives of ministries and departments of Afghanistan.

To date, Afghan oilmen have drilled about 9 wells in the Amu Darya basin.  Representatives of the Chamber of Industry and Mines noted that the development and production of oil in these territories is an important step towards self-sufficiency of the state with fuel.

The development of the oil industry in Afghanistan is assisted by the Chinese company CNPC.  In 2023, the company will invest USD 162 million for this purpose, and over the next three years – USD 540 million.
