On September 22, 2020, the High Level Week of the 75th Anniversary Session of the United Nations General Assembly began at the UN Headquarters in New York. On this day, the broadcast of the speeches of the heads of state and government began. One of the first was the demonstration of the speech of the President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov.

In his address, the head of our state voiced important initiatives and proposals to the world community regarding the development of the global economy, international and regional cooperation, security, health care and other spheres of life.

In particular, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that the coronavirus pandemic has a significant negative impact on the course and direction of the global economy, seriously undermining the efforts of the world community to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

In this context, Turkmenistan expects to intensify cooperation aimed at restoring economic and trade ties, the Turkmen leader said.

The President stressed that today it is necessary to create platforms to bring the global economy onto a trajectory of sustainable growth, where the key areas should be energy, transport, industry and trade.

In this context, during the 75th session, Turkmenistan intends to intensify work on the creation of UN international legal instruments in the field of stability and reliability of energy transit, the head of state noted.

As one of the initiators of broad international communication on transport issues, Turkmenistan proposes to consider the issue of ensuring stable international transport during emergency situations. We have prepared a corresponding draft resolution of the General Assembly and sent it to the UN member states for consideration, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov said.

In his opinion, the international conference of ministers of landlocked developing countries planned for next year in Turkmenistan will become an effective platform for developing agreed approaches to this problem.

The President also noted that the World Trade Organization should take a proactive role in the work to restore the world economy, stimulate trade and investment. Having recently received the status of an observer in the WTO, Turkmenistan will actively use the opportunities opened up in this regard to promote practical measures to quickly overcome the crisis in the world economy, its transition to positive dynamics.
