Turkey will increase natural gas consumption in 2022 after reaching another record of 60 billion cubic meters in 2021.  This was announced on Thursday during the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum by Turkish Deputy Energy Minister Alparslan Bayraktar, Interfax reports.

«Turkey is one of the largest consumers of gas in Europe. The fourth largest market, 60 billion cubic meters, and we expect this consumption to increase this year», the Turkish official said.

«In the gas sector, we are striving to diversify our supply routes. We are striving to invest in infrastructure. We have a long-term exploration program. We have discovered a large Sakarya field in the Black Sea – now it is under development», he recalled.

Among the gas pipeline projects, Bayraktar mentioned the international projects TAP and TANAP, as well as the «very quickly implemented Turkish Stream project, which was launched in 2017» and launched in 2020.
