Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov: in 2020 GDP growth of Turkmenistan amounted to 5.9%

Last year, GDP growth in Turkmenistan amounted to 5.9%. This was stated by President Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov at the expanded meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan held last Friday, at which the results of 2020 were summed up.
- And although last year turned out to be difficult and challenging for all of us, despite the crisis in the global economy, we were able to achieve success, to fulfill almost all plans,- the head of the state said.
The rates of growth of the national economy have been preserved. Last year, GDP growth was 5.9%, including in industry - 3.3%, trade - 15.1%, transport and communications sector - 4.7%, as the President noted.
The head of the state said that about 12 thousand new jobs were created in the country. More than $38 billion USD has been invested in the construction industry. 45 large industrial and social facilities with a total value of $8 billion USD have been commissioned.
“More than 2 million square meters of housing was commissioned, including for low-income families who were able to improve their living conditions”, - the head of the state said.
“We have again increased salaries, pensions and social security in 2021”, - Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted.
”For the further successful development of the country new projects, new ideas and management methods are needed. This means that leaders should put forward initiatives, and there should be as many of them as possible”, - the President said.
The head of the state emphasized that it was necessary to increase the production of import-substituting products, effectively mastering the countless natural resources of the country, to focus on improving the quality of life of the population, increasing income, creating new jobs and attracting investment.
- Despite the difficulties and negative phenomena that have arisen in the world, we have managed to maintain peace, security, achieve socio-economic growth, improve the living standards of the people, -Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov summed up.
During the meeting, the President signed resolutions on the approval of new state programs and strategies in various areas of the country's development.
In particular, the following were approved: The Strategy for the Management and Reform of Enterprises with State Participation in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, the State Program for the Development of the Digital Economy in Turkmenistan for 2021-2025, the Investment Program of Turkmenistan for 2021, the Foreign Trade Strategy of Turkmenistan for 2021-2030 years.
Another resolution the President approved was the Regulation on licensing the import, production and sale of chemical products.
By another decree the head of the state created an Interdepartmental Commission to coordinate the work of the "One-stop-shop for Export-Import Operations" system, approved its composition and regulations The State Customs Service of Turkmenistan has been designated as the authorized body to coordinate the work of the system.
