President of Turkmenistan to attend first Central Asia-Italy summit in Astana

President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov will attend the first summit of heads of state in the Central Asia-Italy format, which will be held on May 30 in Astana. Vice-Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov reported on preparations for the working visit of the head of Turkmenistan to Astana to participate in the upcoming Summit at a government meeting on May 29, TDH reports.

The Vice-Chairman noted the productive nature of the trade and economic partnership with a number of large Italian companies. Turkmenistan and Italy also fruitfully interact in the cultural and humanitarian spheres and in the field of archeology. The legal framework for bilateral relations consists of 37 documents.

As noted, visits and high-level meetings play a key role in the development of interstate dialogue. In 2009 and 2019, the President of Turkmenistan made official visits to Italy, and in 2015, a working visit. In 2014, the Prime Minister of Italy paid a working visit to Turkmenistan.

The Central Asia-Italy format opens up a new direction for effective cooperation, expanding its spectrum", Rashid Meredov noted, presenting the program of the upcoming visit to Kazakhstan to participate in the Summit for consideration by the head of state.

After hearing the report, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted with satisfaction that Turkmenistan has maintained productive relations with Italy in the political, diplomatic, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres for many years.

The head of Turkmenistan noted the role of the Central Asia-Italy Summit in strengthening the partnership between the countries of Central Asia and Italy. In this regard, the Vice-Chairman was instructed to continue working to develop cooperation in this direction.
