Cooperation of Turkmenistan with Afghanistan is based on large projects, - Vice Prime Minister

On November 23, 2020, a two-day High-Level Conference on Afghanistan began in Geneva, which is being held online under the chairmanship of the governments of Afghanistan and Finland in conjunction with the UN, the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan reports.

The conference brought together high-ranking representatives from more than 100 countries and international organizations. Turkmenistan is represented at the Forum by Vice Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan Rashid Meredov.

As the Vice Prime Minister stressed in his speech, Turkmenistan attaches great importance to the comprehensive development of Afghanistan and strives to contribute to international efforts aimed at strengthening statehood, economic integration and the well-being of the people of Afghanistan.

Rashid Meredov also noted that cooperation between the two neighboring countries is based on large projects and programs of a socio-economic and humanitarian nature.

Realizing the importance of such spheres of the economy as energy, transport, communications and communications for the comprehensive development of Afghanistan, Turkmenistan is actively working to promote a number of major international infrastructure projects, the Vice Prime Minister said.

He stressed the commitment of the Turkmen side to advance the construction of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline, power transmission lines and fiber-optic communications along the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan route, and the construction of railways from Turkmenistan to Afghanistan.

“Turkmenistan is actively developing partnership with Afghanistan in the humanitarian spectrum,” the Vice Prime Minister continued.

Within the framework of the Program for providing humanitarian assistance to Afghanistan in 2020-2022, the government of Turkmenistan is providing humanitarian assistance to the brotherly country, including through the construction of a number of social facilities.

The Geneva Conference is an effective mechanism and an effective platform for the international community to discuss issues of comprehensive reconstruction of Afghanistan and join efforts in the process of the country's socio-economic development. The focus is on achieving peace and security.
