Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov proposed to prepare a Roadmap for the development of cooperation in the energy sector between the member countries of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), speaking on Friday at the OTS summit in Astana, TDH reports.

As Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted, possessing rich oil and gas fields, Turkmenistan pursues a policy of reliable and safe energy exports to world markets, in particular, Turkmen natural gas and electricity are supplied to neighboring countries and states in the region.  In this direction, close cooperation has been established with the countries that are members of the Organization of Turkic States.

As an example, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized that Turkmenistan currently sends its natural gas to neighboring and fraternal countries – Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.

“At the same time, there are opportunities to transport Turkmen natural gas through the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, Turkey, and in the future bring it to world markets,” Chairman of Halk Maslakhaty said.

“I am confident that in the very near future, together with our fraternal countries, all necessary issues will be resolved and relevant work will be carried out,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov added.

Speaking about the electric power industry, Hero-Arkadag noted that Turkmenistan exports electricity to the fraternal countries of Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan, and in the future it will be possible to supply electricity to Azerbaijan and Turkey through the Caspian Sea.

The head of the Halk Maslakhaty also said that today on the Turkmen coast of the Caspian Sea near the city of Turkmenbashi, the foundation of a new modern power plant with a capacity of 1,574 megawatts was laid.

“In general, we consider it expedient to prepare a Roadmap for the development of cooperation in the energy sector among member countries of the Organization of Turkic States to intensify and legally consolidate the ongoing joint activities,” Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov emphasized.
