Prospects for cooperation in the inter-parliamentary, legislative, trade and economic spheres were discussed on Monday at a meeting of the National Leader of the Turkmen people, Chairman of the Halk Maslakhaty of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov with a parliamentary delegation of the Republic of Korea, which arrived in Ashgabat on a visit led by the head of the Korea-Turkmenistan Friendship Group Lee  Dal Gonom.

Recalling his official visit to the Republic of Korea on November 27-29, 2022, Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that Ashgabat considers the current visit of Korean parliamentarians as a continuation of the then high-level negotiations and meetings with Korean business leaders, as a result of which a solid package of agreements was signed.

  • I believe that the results of the visit gave a new impetus to cooperation not only in the field of lawmaking, but also the development of bilateral relations in a wide range.  We consider your current visit as a continuation of the negotiations started then, - Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted.

Addressing the members of the Korean delegation, Hero-Arkadag emphasized that the economic cooperation between the two states is consistent, sustainable and long-term.

Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedov noted that for many years large Korean companies have been fruitfully working in the gas sector and the chemical industry of Turkmenistan.  Vehicles made in the Republic of Korea are very popular among Turkmen citizens, including as passenger buses and taxis.

Expressing confidence that the current meeting would be another significant step in strengthening bilateral cooperation, Hero-Arkadag confirmed the readiness of Turkmenistan to build up trade and economic partnership in new areas.

As Lee Dal Gon noted, Turkmenistan is a country with colossal reserves of natural gas.  In this regard, Korean companies are interested in implementing projects in this area.  This also applies to the construction of objects of the second phase of the "smart city" - the city of Arkadag.

On the same day, the Korean delegation held a series of meetings with members of the parliament and government of Turkmenistan.  At a meeting in the Mejlis and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan, preparations were discussed for holding the 16th Central Asia + Republic of Korea Cooperation Forum in Ashgabat this year, as well as interaction in the field of science, education, medicine, sports, tourism, cultural and humanitarian contacts  .

The growing dynamics of relations between the two countries in recent years, due to the mutual desire to bring diversified economic partnership to a qualitatively new level, was noted.

At a meeting with Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers of Turkmenistan Ashirguly Begliev, who is in charge of the fuel and energy complex, special attention was paid to the introduction of advanced experience and high technologies, the latest scientific and technical developments in the fuel and energy complex of Turkmenistan, as well as mutually beneficial partnerships with leading foreign companies, including  Korean.
