The new administrative center of the Akhal region received the status of a city and will be called Arkadag. The Mejlis of the Milli Gengesh of Turkmenistan adopted a corresponding resolution on this.
This decision was announced by the Chairman of the Mejlis G. Mammedova at an extended government meeting held on Wednesday in the new administrative center of Akhal region. Introducing the resolution, Mammedova specified that the wishes of residents of all regions of the country, as well as proposals from public organizations, were taken into account when adopting the document.
Also, according to the decree, the administrative center of the Akhal region will become the city of Arkadag. 2370 hectares from the lands of the Gökdepe etrap of the Akhal region are transferred to the administrative territory of the new city, and the village of Aba Annaev of the Karizek gengeshlik of the Gokdepe etrap joins the city.
