The Pakistani government, facing a winter gas crisis, has made plans to import liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) overland from Turkmenistan via Afghanistan. This is reported by Pakistan today.

According to the publication, the customs office in Quetta (the capital of Balochistan province), after consulting with interested parties, sent a plan for importing LPG across the border at Chaman to the Federal Tax Service. The Federal Government of Pakistan is ready to take a big step on the import of liquefied petroleum gas from Turkmenistan and for this purpose, permission is being prepared for the import of gas carriers.
Afghan carriers are expected to ferry empty Pakistani tank trucks from the Chaman border to the Turkmen border crossing at Torghundi for refueling with liquefied petroleum gas. The tanker will then travel back to Chaman and be handed over to Pakistani carriers who will then deliver the cargo to the required destinations in Pakistan.
The documents referenced by Pakistan today set out three plans – short term, short term and long term. The first plan will begin to be implemented immediately. The short term plan will take six to eight months, the long term one year. The long-term plan provides for the construction of a station for pumping LPG to Pakistani tankers.
