Talks between the Presidents of Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan took place in Baku

During his state visit to Azerbaijan, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov held talks with President Ilham Aliyev in Baku on June 22. The meeting, held at the Zagulba Palace, was held in a one-on-one format and in an expanded format with the participation of delegations from both countries, TDH reports.
The parties discussed key areas of interstate partnership, reaffirming their commitment to deepening political, trade, economic, cultural, and humanitarian cooperation. Particular attention was paid to energy, transport, ecology, and joint projects in agriculture and water management.
The head of Turkmenistan emphasized the need to intensify the work of the bilateral intergovernmental commission to further increase trade turnover.
The talks resulted in the signing of a package of cooperation documents. These documents included: a Program of Cooperation between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Field of Industry for 2026–2028; Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on Cooperation in the Energy Sector; Agreement between the Government of Turkmenistan and the Government of the Republic of Azerbaijan on the Main Directions for Developing and Deepening Economic Cooperation; and other documents.
Presidents Serdar Berdimuhamedov and Ilham Aliyev signed a Joint Statement. The document notes that bilateral relations between Turkmenistan and the Republic of Azerbaijan are consistently developing in all areas of mutual interest. At the same time, the parties reaffirm their readiness to continue working to implement the agreements reached during the visit.
Serdar Berdimuhamedov, speaking to media representatives, noted that trade and economic relations were discussed in detail during the meeting. Energy, transport, the chemical and textile industries, and a number of other areas were identified as priority areas. Close partnership within the framework of the five-party cooperation in the Caspian Sea will continue.
"We also agreed to closely cooperate in creating East-West transport and transit corridors through our countries," said Serdar Berdimuhamedov.
Our delegation highly appreciates the results of today's meeting, which resulted in the signing of a substantial package of bilateral documents, said the President of Turkmenistan, confirming that cooperation with Azerbaijan will develop in all key areas, which meets the long-term interests of both countries and peoples.
Particular gratitude was expressed for the oil tanker "Dostluk". "We accept this modern vessel as a symbol of the fraternal relations between our peoples," said Serdar Berdimuhamedov, expressing confidence that the tanker will contribute to the prosperity of both countries and will serve as further proof of successful Turkmen-Azerbaijani cooperation.

In the Balkan region, a key region in the oil and gas sector of Turkmenistan, it is planned to increase natural gas production to 11 billion cubic meters per year by 2025.
