On February 26, the first meeting of the foreign ministers of Central Asia and the United Kingdom was held in London. Prospects for deepening political dialogue, trade, economic, and investment cooperation were discussed, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
In his speech, Turkmenistan's Foreign Minister Rashid Meredov noted the timeliness of the first ministerial meeting in the "Central Asia – United Kingdom" format, given the strengthening of regional consolidation in Central Asia.
The meeting emphasized the interest of the Central Asian countries in developing sustainable and competitive economies capable of effectively responding to global challenges. In this regard, priority areas for cooperation with the United Kingdom were outlined.
Key areas included energy and decarbonization, including modernization of the oil and gas industry, the introduction of advanced hydrocarbon processing technologies, and the development of renewable energy; financial and trade technologies leveraging London's experience; and transport and logistics, as well as strengthening the region's transit potential.
In conclusion, the Minister confirmed Turkmenistan's readiness for active and substantive cooperation both within the new format and on a bilateral basis, with a focus on achieving concrete and mutually beneficial results.
