At the first Cabinet of Ministers meeting in 2026 on January 9, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov approved the plans submitted for the development of key sectors of the national economy, TDH reports.

As noted, the financial sector's plans include the large-scale implementation of digital technologies in banking, support for private entrepreneurship, and optimization of state property management. Particular attention is paid to lending to the real sector of the economy and analyzing the efficiency of production capacities.

Priority tasks for the oil and gas sector in 2026 include the commencement of the next phases of development of the supergiant Galkynysh field and the successful construction of the Serhetabat-Herat section, known as "Arkadagyň ak ýoly," of the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) gas pipeline.

The construction sector will focus on the construction of new facilities in Ashgabat and the modernization of road infrastructure.

In the agricultural sector, innovative methods are planned for cotton and grain production. The President also instructed that special attention be paid to the rational use of water resources and increasing the number of the famous Akhal-Teke horses.

In the transport and communications sector, the construction of new railway stations and sea vessels, as well as the repair of diesel locomotives and railcars, is planned for 2026. The President noted the importance of expanding international transport corridors, creating favorable conditions for transit traffic, and increasing its volume.

Key areas of Turkmenistan's foreign policy strategy include the implementation of Turkmenistan's initiatives within the framework of the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, interaction with the World Trade Organization (WTO), strengthening ties with the International Energy Agency, and developing international transport corridors to transform the country into the largest logistics hub in Eurasia.

In the field of education, the primary focus is on attracting young people to high technology and developing applied innovations.

The coming year will be a milestone year: Turkmenistan will celebrate the 35th anniversary of its independence. To mark this occasion, international forums, restoration of Silk Road monuments, and new nominations for the UNESCO World Heritage List are planned.
