President of Turkmenistan and head of ADB discussed priority areas of cooperation

On November 11, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov received Masato Kanda, President of the Asian Development Bank (ADB), who was visiting our country, TDH reports.
The head of state expressed confidence that this visit would facilitate an exchange of views on the further development of bilateral economic cooperation.
Emphasizing that Turkmenistan's economic strategy places great importance on strengthening ties with reputable financial and banking institutions, Berdimuhamedov noted the effectiveness of long-standing collaboration with the ADB. Over the past 25 years, the bank has participated in financing a number of projects in Turkmenistan in the electric power, infrastructure, and railway sectors.
Today, the bilateral partnership is implemented within the framework of Turkmenistan's cooperation strategy. In particular, projects implemented under the Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) program contribute to the development of Turkmenistan's economic, trade, transport, and energy systems and the training of highly qualified specialists.
As noted during the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed on May 17, 2025, between the State Committee for Construction of the City of Arkadag under the President of Turkmenistan and the ADB, opening up opportunities for expanding partnerships in energy, water and energy conservation, and the use of renewable energy sources in the smart city.
Strengthening cooperation in the fuel and energy sector was also identified as an important area of cooperation.
During his visit, Masato Kanda held a number of meetings, which resulted in the signing of an Agreement between Turkmenistan and the ADB on Financing the Construction of a Secondary Medical School in Ashgabat, as well as a document between the Ministry of Health and Medical Industry of Turkmenistan and the ADB on cooperation in technical support.
