During his working visit to the United States, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with Portuguese President Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa on September 24, TDH reports.

The two leaders expressed confidence that the meeting would help identify promising areas of bilateral cooperation and further develop it.

Noting that Turkmenistan and Portugal enjoy friendly relations based on the principles of equality and mutual respect, they acknowledged the great potential for developing and strengthening this cooperation.

They also noted that Turkmenistan and Portugal support each other's constructive international initiatives and co-sponsor them within the UN.

In this context, noting that, at Turkmenistan's initiative and in accordance with a UN General Assembly resolution, 2025 has been declared the "International Year of Peace and Trust," an event that coincides with the 30th anniversary of the country's permanent neutrality, Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited the President of Portugal to participate in the International Forum, which will be held on December 12 in Ashgabat.

Thanking for the invitation, Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa noted that Turkmenistan's peacekeeping foreign policy, based on positive neutrality, enjoys broad support worldwide and strengthens the country's international standing as a responsible participant in global dialogue.
