During a working visit to the United States, President of Turkmenistan Serdar Berdimuhamedov met with UN Secretary-General António Guterres on September 23, TDH reports.

Antonio Guterres noted that he views this meeting as a continuation of cooperation on important issues, emphasizing Turkmenistan's contribution to the positive resolution of regional and global problems.

Serdar Berdimuhamedov reaffirmed Turkmenistan's commitment to further developing a multifaceted partnership with the UN.

"As a neutral state three times recognized by the UN, Turkmenistan pursues an active policy in the international arena and has maintained fruitful relations with the UN and its specialized agencies for many years," the head of state noted.

As an example, the President cited the Third UN Conference on Landlocked Developing Countries (LLDC), successfully held in Turkmenistan in August 2025.

Antonio Guterres emphasized that this Forum and the documents adopted during it mark a new stage in the UN's work to address the challenges facing LLDCs.

As Serdar Berdimuhamedov noted, Turkmenistan is committed to the effective implementation of the Avaza Political Declaration and the Avaza Action Plan.

It was also emphasized that Turkmenistan is committed to constructive cooperation with regional states in the interests of global peace and the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. In recent years, the UN Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia has carried out extensive work to create new forms of interaction and implement specific goals.

Noting that, at Turkmenistan's initiative, the UN declared 2025 the "International Year of Peace and Trust," an event that coincides with the 30th anniversary of the country's permanent neutrality, Serdar Berdimuhamedov invited Antonio Guterres to participate in the International Forum, which will be held in Ashgabat on December 12.

Thanking for the invitation, the UN Secretary-General emphasized the important role of neutral Turkmenistan in promoting the ideals of peace in Central Asia and throughout the world.

Concluding the meeting, the two leaders expressed confidence that the strategic partnership between Turkmenistan and the UN would develop in the interests of global peace and prosperity and exchanged best wishes.
