Active preparations are underway for the International Forum on Attracting Foreign Investments into the Economy of Turkmenistan (TEIF 2025), which will be held on April 23-24, 2025 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The number of registered delegates to the upcoming industry forum, organized by the State Concerns "Turkmengas" and "Turkmennebit", the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Turkmenistan in partnership with the Turkmen Energy Forum Economic Society, is growing every day.
As reported by the Turkmen Energy Forum, one of the participants of TEIF 2025 in Kuala Lumpur will be the Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) Mohammed Hamel. He will be a speaker at Session 1: “New Investment Opportunities in Turkmenistan’s Energy Sector – Natural Gas and Monetization”. Mohamed Hamel will discuss Turkmenistan’s potential in the global energy market, highlighting key opportunities for investment and development.
The participation of the head of this major international organization in the upcoming forum demonstrates that Turkmenistan and the GECF are committed to strengthening their energy partnership.
Mohamed Hamel recently visited our country, where on March 19 he took part in the International Conference “International Year of Peace and Trust: The Role of Interregional Economic Cooperation in Ensuring Sustainable Development”. The Secretary General of the Gas Exporting Countries Forum also met with high-ranking representatives of the Government of Turkmenistan.
“During the meetings, the GECF Secretary General highly appreciated Turkmenistan’s leadership in the global and regional energy sector, recognizing its strategic role as one of the world’s largest suppliers of natural gas. He underscored the country's commitment to energy security, market stability and economic cooperation, noting the critical role of natural gas in facilitating a fair and inclusive energy transition," the GECF press release said.
It is also noted that "in line with global efforts to ensure sustainable, reliable access to energy, Mohamed Hamel reaffirmed GECF's continued support for Turkmenistan's energy plans through knowledge sharing, capacity building and strengthening regional and global cooperation".
During the meetings, the parties expressed their mutual commitment to strengthening productive cooperation, and emphasized Turkmenistan's significant potential for deeper interaction within the GECF, the press release noted.
The GECF is an intergovernmental organization that serves as a platform for knowledge sharing and cooperation among its member states. Its full members are Algeria, Bolivia, Egypt, Equatorial Guinea, Iran, Libya, Nigeria, Qatar, Russia, Trinidad and Tobago, the UAE and Venezuela. At the same time, Angola, Azerbaijan, Iraq, Malaysia, Mauritania, Mozambique, Peru and Senegal have observer status.
With this composition, the GECF has a strong influence on global energy markets, accounting for 69% of the world's gas reserves, 39% of sold products, 40% of global gas exports and 51% of global LNG exports, which strengthens its role as a key player in the international gas industry.
